JBL VTX B35 Series

Introducing the VTX B35 and VTX B35G 15-inch Cardioid Subwoofers

The JBL VTX B35 is engineered for professionals who need controlled low-frequency performance in spaces where conventional cardioid subwoofer arrays are difficult to deploy. Purpose-built for the VTX Series, B35 brings fixed cardioid behavior into a compact, single-enclosure design, giving system designers a practical solution to reduce rearward energy, improve stage conditions, and keep low-frequency coverage focused toward the audience.

At the core of the system are three JBL Differential Drive 15-inch woofers arranged in a front-rear configuration. Two forward-facing drivers and one rear-facing driver are powered independently using dedicated Crown I-Tech HD amplifier channels and optimized JBL presets. This integrated architecture produces predictable cardioid directivity without requiring additional rear-facing cabinets, complex spacing calculations, or field-built subwoofer arrays. The result is a low-frequency solution that is easier to specify, faster to deploy, and better suited to applications where available space, rigging capacity, or architectural constraints limit traditional cardioid approaches.

B35 is designed to work naturally within VTX Series while giving users more ways to solve low-frequency deployment challenges. The flyable B35 is mechanically compatible with VTX A12, enabling clean mixed arrays with A12 suspended below B35 without adapter frames. It is also compatible with A12 rigging accessories including the A12 Array Frame MKII and Suspension Bar, supporting flown, standalone, and hybrid configurations across touring and installed applications. For ground-stacked only systems, or fixed installations, the B35G retains the same acoustic design, amplifier presets, and performance characteristics in a streamlined enclosure without touring flyware.

With extension down to 32 Hz, a high output-to-size ratio, optimised presets, simple NL4 wiring, and integration with Venue Synthesis, Array Link, and Performance Manager, the B35 adds a focused, flexible low-frequency control to the VTX ecosystem. From major festival stages and arena deployments to under-stage placement and fixed installations with limited depth or sightline restrictions, B35 helps deliver the right amount of bass in the right direction, with less energy where it is not needed.

Common Applications

B35 Series is suited for touring productions, festivals, arenas, performance venues, houses of worship, and fixed installations that require directional low-frequency control in a compact footprint. It is especially useful where stage wash, backstage noise, trim height, under-stage height, or architectural constraints make conventional cardioid subwoofer arrays impractical.

Integrated Cardioid Control

B35 uses a fixed cardioid architecture with three JBL Differential Drive 15-inch woofers arranged as two forward-facing drivers and one rear-facing driver. Each section is powered independently using dedicated amplifier channels and optimised presets, creating predictable rear rejection and forward-focused low-frequency energy without requiring additional subwoofer cabinets, external array spacing, or complex deployment techniques.

Designed for VTX Systems

B35 is mechanically compatible with VTX A12, enabling mixed arrays with A12 suspended below B35 without adapter frames. For standalone flown configurations, B35 works with A12 rigging accessories including the A12 Array Frame (MKII) and Suspension Bar, helping system designers maintain a unified mechanical workflow across VTX deployments. B35 is compatible with all VTX Series base plates, enabling ground-stacked configurations with VTX A-Series line array products. It is also acoustically compatible with all VTX full-range systems and all other VTX B-Series subwoofers, allowing multiple subwoofer types and configurations to be combined within a single system.

A Practical Solution for Constrained Deployments

The primary value of B35 is not simply that it can be used cardioid; it is that cardioid behavior is built into a compact, purpose-designed enclosure. This makes B35 a strong fit for productions and installations where low-frequency control is needed but space, trim height, rigging capacity, truck pack, under-stage height, or architectural sightlines limit what can be achieved with conventional multi-cabinet cardioid arrays.

Two models, one Acoustic platform

The standard B35 includes full touring rigging for maximum flexibility and system integration. B35G omits integrated touring fly hardware but includes 16× M10 QuickLink eyebolts for fixed installation, while also supporting ground-stacked configurations. Both models share the same acoustic design, amplifier presets, performance characteristics, and simple NL4 wiring, providing flexibility across all applications.

Software-integrated Workflow

B35 integrates seamlessly with the full JBL software ecosystem, including Venue Synthesis, Array Link, and Performance Manager. Venue Synthesis provides advanced tools for system design, optimisation, and acoustic prediction, along with mechanical safety checks and deployment data. Integrated subwoofer array tools, including the Electronic Delay Steering (EDS) calculator, enable rapid optimization of large, distributed subwoofer arrays. Array Link streamlines deployment by delivering clear, accessible array configuration and rigging data directly to mobile devices. Performance Manager enables system configuration, tuning, monitoring, and control within the same unified workflow used across all VTX systems.

Professional Build Quality

B35 is constructed from outdoor-grade Baltic birch plywood and finished with JBL’s proprietary, impact-resistant black DuraFlex coating. A stainless-steel grille, IP55 rating, and corrosion-resistant suspension hardware ensure long-term reliability in demanding environments. The enclosure, rigging, and transducers are engineered for the most demanding touring and installation applications and are backed by JBL Professional’s 5-year warranty.
