Feilding Civic Centre Bettear Auracast System

The Feilding Civic Centre in Manawatu, New Zealand, recently upgraded its accessibility offering with a new Bettear Auracast™ broadcast audio system, installed as part of a wider sound-system refurbishment. The multi-purpose venue serves theatre and live event audiences as well as sports arena patrons, making flexible, inclusive audio essential.

The Challenge

Traditional assistive listening systems can be limiting — restricted to dedicated receivers, complex to maintain, and unable to scale across different venue uses.

Feilding Civic Centre needed a solution that worked across both its theatre and multipurpose sports arena while future-proofing its technology investment.

The Solution

Bettear B-Caster streamers were installed to provide Auracast™ coverage across both spaces. For patrons without Auracast-compatible personal devices, the system also includes Bettear B-RTX Experience receivers, supported by B-SmartHive smart charging and configuration bays that let venue staff efficiently manage, charge, and deploy receivers for events.

Auracast™ broadcast audio — a capability built on Bluetooth® LE — allows a single audio source to stream to many compatible devices simultaneously, including hearing aids, Auracast-enabled hearables, and earbuds. No pairing or settings changes are required: users simply scan, tap, and listen.

The Results

Since going live in late 2025, the Civic Centre has reported strong feedback from patrons, who have found it easy to connect their own devices and have praised the clarity of the audio.

"The system has performed beyond expectations. The slimline design is excellent, and the technology opens up far more possibilities than traditional assistive listening. It's a solid system — straightforward to install and maintain, and it gives venues a lot of flexibility moving forward."

— Mark Marsden, Integrator, Fauldings Sound

The installation was carried out by Fauldings Sound and Kinetic Electrical, with commissioning support and design specification provided by JPRO. Beyond assistive listening, the Bettear system also supports translation and tour-guiding applications, giving the venue added flexibility for future use cases.

Why It Matters for Venues Like Yours

This installation shows how Auracast™ technology can go beyond compliance-driven assistive listening to deliver a genuinely better audio experience — one that's easier to install, easier to maintain, and adaptable to a venue's evolving needs.
