The Studio Technologies Model 203 Announcer's Console delivers the audio resources needed to support a complete broadcast on-air position. Using Dante® audio-over-Ethernet technology, the unit provides main and talkback output channels, talent cue (IFB) inputs, and sidetone capabilities. The Model 203 is compatible with Dante Domain Manager™ (DDM) software and is AES67-compliant for integration into contemporary networked audio applications.
Optimised for broadcast sports, live entertainment, eSports, and streaming applications, the Model 203 allows simple deployment while maintaining professional audio quality. Requiring only a Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) connection, a microphone, and headphones or an earpiece, the unit is ready for use in moments. The free STcontroller software application configures all operating parameters including microphone preamplifier gain, P48 phantom power, headphone signal routing, sidetone operation, and button action.
Applications
The Model 203 provides an all-Dante solution for a single on-air talent position. Supported applications include sports and entertainment broadcasting, streaming, corporate and government AV, and post-production. Its compact size makes it ideal for space-limited live events. Two Dante input channels supply talent cue (IFB) signals, with an integrated sidetone function available for mix-minus cue configurations. Two Dante output channels — main (on-air) and talkback — route via LAN to Dante-compatible devices, controlled by two pushbutton switches with virtually click-free digital audio switching.
Setup and Operation
An etherCON® RJ45 jack connects the unit to a PoE-enabled network switch, delivering both power and bidirectional digital audio over a single cable. The 3-pin XLR microphone input supports dynamic and condenser microphones, with selectable P48 phantom power for the latter. Headphones, a headset, or a monaural earpiece connect to the headphone output jack. Two pushbutton switches and two rotary potentiometers provide hands-on control of output status and talent cue levels.
Ethernet, PoE, and Dante
The Model 203 connects via a Neutrik® etherCON RJ45 jack to a 100 Mb/s network, with operating power supplied by the 802.3af PoE standard (Class 2 device). Two Dante transmitter and two Dante receiver channels are assignable using Dante Controller software. Audio bit depth is up to 24-bit at sample rates of 44.1, 48, 88.2, or 96 kHz. In AES67 mode, transmitter channels operate in multicast.
Audio Quality and Configuration
A low-noise microphone preamplifier with an integrated VCA compressor preserves audio quality while minimising signal overload. The Dante main output can be sourced pre- or post-compressor. All configuration is handled via the free STcontroller app (Windows® and macOS®), with selectable parameters including preamplifier gain, phantom power, headphone routing, sidetone mode, and button operation.
Firmware Updates
Application firmware can be updated via USB flash drive. The unit's Dante interface, built on the Audinate UltimoX2™ integrated circuit, can also be updated via Ethernet to ensure ongoing compatibility.
