Case Study: The Australian High Commission, Wellington, New Zealand

HARMAN Professional Solutions decks up the audio space for The Australian High Commission’s events and meetings with BSS, JBL and AKG products.

Wellington, New Zealand – The Australian High Commission is the official representative of the Australian Government in New Zealand. Besides providing a range of services to the public, incluading consular, passport, visa and immigration, citizenship and cultural relations services, they also act on behalf of the various Australian Government authorities by representing Australia’s interests to local, regional and multilateral government and business organizations in New Zealand.

The Australian High Commission in Wellington recently installed a high-quality HARMAN Professional audio solution. Jonathan Pawley, AV & IT Manager for the Australian High Commission called upon Matt Chapman, managing director of Audio Workshop to provide firstly a full system analysis and report on their current system, followed by a recommendation report to enhance their existing systems with a true world class system.

The Australian High Commission host events and meetings throughout the year and has four dedicated spaces they use individually or in a number of configurations, including all four spaces combined for their larger events. Three of the key considerations with the redesign of the system was good sound quality / speech intelligibility (acoustically challenging spaces), system versatility based on the differing demands and a user friendly interface that could be used in any of the four spaces.
The audio system is controlled by a BSS Soundweb BLU-100 audio processor and control is with either the BSS Contrio EC-8BV wall controller or an IPad which has been programmed to offer the staff greater control over the system with pre-set recall functionality included. The system has been programmed so all zones can be standalone or when the zones are combined they are time aligned which has greatly improved the intelligibility. A closed wireless network with distributed access points dedicated to the iPad control was installed to maximise reliability and performance.
